Launch emulators

Start and stop Android emulators, and iOS simulators on macOS, from the Devices tab.

desktop guide · 1 min read

The Devices tab in the top bar lists the emulators installed on your computer, so you can start one before running a mobile app. The list refreshes on its own every few seconds, and Refresh updates it straight away.

Android emulators

Dockmaster lists your Android Virtual Devices, with the API level of each, and whether each one is running.

  • Click Launch to start an emulator and Stop to shut it down.
  • Create and edit virtual devices in Android Studio. They appear in Dockmaster automatically.

Dockmaster finds the Android SDK in this order:

  1. The ANDROID_HOME environment variable.
  2. The ANDROID_SDK_ROOT environment variable.
  3. The default install folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Android\Sdk on Windows, ~/Library/Android/sdk on macOS, ~/Android/Sdk on Linux.

If none of these exists, the tab says Android SDK not found.

iOS simulators

On macOS, Dockmaster lists your Xcode simulators. Launch boots one and opens the Simulator app; Stop shuts it down. On Windows and Linux this section explains that iOS simulators are only available on macOS.

Physical devices

The Devices tab is for emulators and simulators only. Connected phones and tablets aren’t listed; run your app’s usual command (for example flutter run) to deploy to one.
